Throwback Thursday.

For this project I have taken a lot of inspiration from my own childhood; memories of making up games, adventures in the back garden, and spending a lot of time outdoors. Looking back through old photos I found this of me and my Dad by a canal!

I've also done a quick sketch from it, looking and the different textures and marks.

Instagram Lately.

1. I ordered a few pieces from Celia Birtwell's collaboration with Uniqlo!
2. I finally learnt how to fishtail braid my hair.
3. Freehand machine sewing late into the night with my temperamental sewing machine!
4. Layers of patterns in my sketchbook.
5. I got my sewing machine repaired over the weekend - it turns out that the darning foot I use for freehand has been sprained the whole time!
6. I bought a bulk of cotton sewing threads from ebay, with some great colours! (I'm not a fan of the shiny looking threads, so these are great).

My website.

I have been working on my website for a while now, and you may have noticed my link to it there on the right. It was my first experience of creating a website, but I've really enjoyed it. You can visit it to keep up to date with my work, see my experience throughout the course, and I will be sharing more photos and information about my degree show closer to the time. Feel free to have a look around and let me know what you think!

Print samples.

I just wanted to share a few peeks at my latest screen prints. As you can see, I've been playing around with layering and colours. I'm now looking at stitching scenes and maps over the top of these!

What I Did Last Week.

I spent last week practicing my Photoshop skills, and I'm starting to feel much more confident producing designs, layouts and patterns. I created 2 colour palette boards using research from WGSN,  Trend Bible and Trend Union. I got back into my sketchbook too, playing around with continuous line drawings. I also produced some new screen designs, and put it onto a new screen, playing around with lines and layering. Later in the week I put these together, testing out some colour palettes with my new screen designs! I'm going to spend this week experimenting with stitching over the prints I created last week, so I should have some exciting completed designs to share soon!

Tree trunks.

Over Easter I managed to take a load of photos of tree trunks, looking at the different marks and textures. 'Ive been working from some of these photos to create some new print and stitch designs. Here are a few of my favourites, I especially love the ombre colour the moss gives the tree below!

What I Did Last Week.

Last week was spent planning how I'm going to get everything done in 5 weeks, and planning what I need to do. I've been playing around with some of my latest drawings, testing out different pattern and design options. I've mixed up some final colour palettes which I'm pretty happy with. I'm finding Illustrator and Photoshop really useful for seeing how different options would work, quickly, for my final designs and products! Once I have decided on some pattern options I am going to look at how they could be placed on my products, to get the best composition. I've also been working on branding myself, and putting together my website, which you can see if you click on my link on the right. Its nearly done, I just need to add photographs!

The Forest.

Over Easter I went with my family to Killerton, a house and parkland near where I live. We didn't actually go into the house or gardens (no dogs allowed!), but they have some amazing woodland so we explored that instead. There was loads of dens and even a giant xylophone built out of wood, so I got some photos for design inspiration. I've started editing my photographs more, and I've been using Picmonkey, a free editing site which I've been finding really useful and easy to use!
See more of my woodland adventures here and here!

Instagram Lately.

I've just got back to Nottingham after going home for Easter weekend. I got a lot of planning done, deciding what I wanted to get done in time for my Degree Show deadline in under 2 months! I also had a good time relaxing, spending time walking my dog, eating chocolate of course and having fizzy drink for the first time since lent!
I just wanted to quickly share some of my latest instagram photos, and I will be back soon with exciting peeks at my latest textiles work and inspiration!
